The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Innovation today (1 December) held an award ceremony for winners of the first Competition of Smart City APP Project Design. The competition aims to attract students from different disciplines to help them learn more about the development of smart cities and mobile applications (APP). The organiser also hopes to support the Macao SAR government to achieve the goal of creating a smart city with a high standard of living. The winning teams will be automatically qualified for the centre’s incubation programme, and will have the opportunity to win up to MOP 500,000 as a start-up fund. Lionel Ni, UM’s vice rector for academic affairs, says that the competition aims to encourage young people to participate in innovative and entrepreneurial projects and to help them develop their creative ideas, as part of the effort to contribute to the goal of building Macao into a smart city.
